Our hedge lab team had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of the new high-tech fire station in eastern Hays County along with some other TXST students. In a unique twist on tradition, leaders and firefighters unbuckled a firefighting hose.
Hays County ESD 5 Chief Kyle Taylor shared that the new station aims to dramatically improve emergency response times in this fast-growing and previously underserved area—from 12–13 minutes to less than half that.
In addition to celebrating the opening, our team is also partnering with the station to monitor water quality on-site. We’re currently conducting research to detect and track PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in the fire station’s water system—an important step toward ensuring environmental safety and public health.
