Biography
Dr. San Hwang is currently an Associate Professor of Environmental and Water Resources Engineering in the Civil Engineering Program in the Ingram School of Engineering at the Texas State University. He specializes in nature-based solutions for environmental challenges, focusing on topics like water quality, waste management, and sustainable infrastructure. Dr. Hwang has extensive experience in both academia and research, and is committed to educating the next generation of environmental engineers.
He is currently the Project Director (PD) of HEDGE(Hwang Eco-friendly Development for Green Environment).
Research Interest
Dr. Hwang’s research expertise is broadly in nature-inspired civil and environmental engineering. His current research focus is on (1) the fate, transport, and remediation of environmental contaminants (e.g., PFAS, microplastics, chlorinated solvents, heavy metals, etc.) under changing climate; (2) the upcycling of plant biomass to produce advanced materials for the improvement of water quality, sanitation, public health, and agricultural productivity; and (3) designing, optimizing, and implementing Green Stormwater Infrastructure for Low Impact Development.
